The Cosmic Order and the flow of Its Awareness

A non-anthropomorphic, trans-conceptual principle that orders emergence without itself being a conscious agent.

This is chapter 5.2, The Cosmic Order and its flow of Awareness, extracted from Part 5 of the book “Metatolistics”.

 

The metaholistic framework describes reality as a ceaseless flow of transformations proceeding from the undifferentiated ground of nothingness to the differentiated multiplicity of universes.  

This Section explores how this flow is guided by what we provisionally term cosmic awareness : a non-anthropomorphic, trans-conceptual principle that orders emergence without itself being a conscious agent. Words can only gesture toward this principle; they neither exhaust nor confine it. ¹

 

1. Beyond Anthropomorphic Metaphors

Cosmic awareness should not be confused with intention, will, or personality. In Brian Browne Walker’s paraphrase of the Dao De Jing —here adapted to our terminology— “Cosmic awareness is beyond words and beyond understanding. Words may be used to speak of it, but they cannot contain it … From this mysterious well flows everything in existence … Cosmic awareness in the world acts like streams that flow to the sea.” (Flow.pdf)

This passage underscores three points:

• Ineffability : any linguistic frame is an approximation.

• Inexhaustibility : engaging with awareness never depletes it.

• Processual Flow : all phenomena arise within, and return to, this ordering current.

   

2. Polarities Within Awareness

Metaholistics models awareness as an interplay of complementary polarities rather than a static essence. Let :

• A_g = global, undivided awareness permeating the whole;

• A_l(t, x) = localized experiential modulation at position x and moment t.

Their interaction operator IA yields the effective ordering influence on any locale :

• Φ(t, x) = I_A(A_g, A_l(t, x))

where Φ(t, x) conditions the probabilities of emergent events without imposing deterministic commands. This formulation avoids imputing motives to the cosmic order while still capturing a directional bias toward coherence and complexity.

 

3. Awareness Flow and the “Cosmic Bootstrap”

Universes contribute to the birth of further universes by generating exogenous energy fields that activate the differentiating potential within neighboring regions of nothingness. Formally :

where U_i and U_j are distinct universes, E_i^exog is the field emitted by U_i, and N_j is a region of undifferentiated nothingness. This cosmic bootstrap embodies a flow of awareness as a self-propagating chain of transformations, rather than a creation ex-nihilo orchestrated by a single universe :

4. Circulation of Information : Whole ↔ Local

Because every local system is simultaneously immersed in A_g and expressing A_l, information circulates bidirectionally :

• Whole → Local :

• The ordering tendency of A_g constrains local possibilities, biasing them toward harmonics conducive to complexity.

• Local → Whole :

• Each emergent configuration feeds novel patterning back into the total field, subtly re-tuning global constraints.

Mathematically, if C(t) is the configuration space of a universe at time t, its evolution satisfies :

with Ω the universe’s spatial domain. The integral term registers the cumulative influence of awareness across all locales.

 

5. Harmony as Evolutionary Gradient

The empirical record shows that structures persisting over cosmological timescales exhibit a high degree of internal harmony —balanced interactions among constituents that minimize destructive interference. In metaholistic terms, harmony serves as the evolutionary gradient along which awareness flow manifests :

∇CH(C) = 0 ⟹ local maximal viability

where H(C) measures harmonic coherence. Systems deviating from this gradient self-correct or disintegrate, echoing Walker’s “streams that flow to the sea” : each follows the path of least resistance determined by the topology of awareness, converging toward equilibrium.

 

6. Implications for Subsequent Dimensions

Because the flow of awareness intrinsically favors harmonics, that support complexity, the emergence of life, societies, and potentially synthetic dimensions can be viewed as successive refinements of Φ(t, x). Later sections, 5.3 to 5.7, examine how this guiding current shapes biological imperatives, societal logics, and the prospective rise of synthetic life, always under the caution that these developments express cosmic ordering rather than conscious cosmic design.
